I must admit it is a tad overwhelming browsing in an Alannah Hill store. The abundance of flowers, sequins, vivid colours and also the fact that the sales assistants are impeccably primped and ready to be whisked to the races always makes me feel inadequate.
A few years ago, while browsing with my mother in the city, I glanced over the aisle and saw two women from afar. But it was really the woman with an opulent flower accessory admidst her raven hair that caught my eye. Observing them without staring and occasionally glancing at the selection in front of me so I didn't look creepy, I realised who she was. Of course there were a few dead give aways. Her patterned frilly dress paired with lace stockings, mid-heels that looked similar to Marie Antoinette's, red lipstick with a dash of dark eyeshadow. There, the creative genius behind this brand stood.
Couple of months ago, I stumbled upon a pair of pale pink cotton pants with a floral pattern, giving off more an oriental theme moreso than a spring factor. I wasn't so sure of it at first, printed pants are tricky to pull off. But, I gave them a go and thought of a few ways these could be used, and they are proving to be an asset.
Casual: white t shirt + sweater + Converse/ sandals
Office: singlet + black sandal heels
Night: biker jacket
What works with this ensemble is that the caramel colour is nicely incorporated into the pants giving it a feeling of completeness.
Sydney weather can be mismatched, especially in the beginning of Spring, so adding a black jacket for the chilly commute to work with suede boots looks elegant with a twist of biker edge. And for drinks or a night out, just replace the boots with strappy heels. Friday night organised!
